From first sketch to running scoop: the future of ready-made meal production starts at Van Wees Waalwijk. During the FoodTech Event 2025, we already gave a glimpse into that future. We presented our Bin Pick Food Cell, a unique bin picker for the food industry.
The Bin Pick Food Cell: innovative, flexible and innovative
During the FoodTech Event 2025 in the Brabanthallen, we presented an innovation we are rightly proud of: the Bin Pick Food Cell. A scalable, hygienic and flexible solution for modern meal production, developed by Van Wees Waalwijk within the NXTGEN HIGHTECH project Ready Made Meals.
Efficient, flexible and durable: that's the power of the Bin Pick Food Cell. This smart solution automates complex tasks such as precision dosing, bin picking and inline quality control.
The Bin Pick Food Cell is specially designed for the increasing diversity in ready-made meals as well as for producers working with smaller volumes. Thanks to the use of mobile robots, different operations can be easily combined and adjusted. This makes automation feasible and affordable, even at lower volumes.
The core of the cell consists of two HD7 robots from Yaskawa. Designed for use in hygiene-sensitive environments, these 6-axis robots meet the highest food safety requirements. Their smooth surface, internal cable routing and IP69K rating enable intensive cleaning without compromising on performance or durability.
The Bin Pick Food Cell features an advanced vision system that accurately recognizes and positions objects. What makes this cell truly unique is its ability to pick individual pieces (such as raw peppers or dressing bags) individually, weigh/dose them precisely and place them carefully in the packaging. This means an enormous gain in precision and hygiene.
This innovation came about in collaboration with Yaskawa, NXTGEN HIGHTECH and Wageningen University. A powerful example of what is possible when technology, collaboration and customization come together.
