That deserves a compliment! The Complimentos

The Complimentos tube, developed by Van Wees Waalwijk on behalf of Perfetti van Melle, is a creative response to the need for more compliments in the workplace. The idea arose from the feeling that people receive too little appreciation, while compliments are essential for motivation and attention to positive things. After all, a compliment works wonders: it tastes like more and increases commitment and productivity.

The concept of the Complimentos tube is deployed during morning meetings. Employees give compliments to each other, then a Mentos is placed in the tube. The tube fills slowly, and the side shows how full it is. When the tube contains 100 Mentos, cake is served!

From idea to product

Kees Vuyk Noorland, Technical Manager at Perfetti Van Melle, made the first prototype of the Complimentos tube himself. The positive impact on the company was so great that Kees contacted Ronald van Hooren, sales engineer at van Wees Waalwijk. Together they discussed the design of the Complimentos and the modifications needed. Ronald made a technical drawing, and after approval, the stainless steel version was produced. With milled out letters and a sleek design, the Complimentos is definitely one to watch!

A successful collaboration

"We have been working with Van Wees Waalwijk for years," Kees says. "Ronald from Van Wees Waalwijk and I make a good team. We understand each other and half a word is enough. Ronald always thinks far ahead and pays attention to the details so that the final product is perfect. At Van Wees Waalwijk they keep their promises."

A radiant end result

The new version of the Complimentos tube is now on display in the office. "We're super happy with it. It looks great, right?"

For a possible new version, Kees already has ideas: "Then the top will be shaped like a bowl, so that the compliment slides gracefully into place. I'm sure they can flesh that out perfectly at Van Wees."

The Complimentos tube is a good example of how a simple idea, combined with a fine collaboration, can lead to a beautiful stainless steel end product. And what's even better; it also creates a positive and motivating atmosphere in the workplace.
