Day of Technology Waalwijk in helicopter flight

Van Wees Waalwijk

What a great Day of Technology Waalwijk 2024 we had at Van Wees Waalwijk! Our all-round service technicians Casper Sprangers and Ruben Schuurmans managed to enthuse the visitors about the world of technology, and we are incredibly proud of their efforts!

Why Casper and Ruben chose engineering

As former bbl-ers, they told the visitors about why they chose to work in engineering and what they like most about working at Van Wees Waalwijk.

Ruben Schuurmans

"When I was a 14-year-old boy in school, I really didn't know at all what I wanted to be. An internship at a metalworking company changed that. I really liked this and my supervisor told me that I did have a feeling for engineering. So I decided to study Mechatronics; first level 3 and then level 4.

On the recommendation of a friend, I ended up at Van Wees Waalwijk. And I still work there with great pleasure. Every day is different, every project is different, I have great colleagues, a lot of freedom and I deal with both electronic and mechanical matters. That combination is what I like best.

My advice to anyone who doubts whether working in engineering is for them; enjoy your internships and, above all, try what you didn't really envision. Who knows, you may be surprised at how much you like it. After all, working in engineering offers an awful lot of opportunities and never stands still."

Casper Sprangers

"Why engineering? Well I actually got that from home. My father is an electrician and I quickly learned that you can do many things yourself. From an early age I tinkered with small projects that I thought up and made myself. From this interest, I chose to work in engineering.

I started at Van Wees Waalwijk after my vocational training and I still work there. There's a lot of variety in my work; one moment I'm helping to build a newly developed high-tech machine and the next moment I'm doing maintenance at the customer's site or solving a malfunction. No two days are the same. I really enjoy the diversity, the challenges and the thinking along. At Van Wees Waalwijk it's all possible, which makes my future in engineering."

Hopefully, many have been inspired by them to choose a future in this dynamic profession.

A helicopter for every visitor

A highlight was seeing each visitor proudly assemble a helicopter after collecting the necessary parts at various booths. They received the construction drawing upon entering, and at Van Wees Waalwijk they could even have a part printed using our 3D printer! The Day of Technology Waalwijk was the perfect time to discover, witness and experience how much fun it is to work in technology.

Technology is the future

At Van Wees Waalwijk we have known it for a long time; technique is the future. Together with 20 other companies we showed students and lateral entrants how versatile working in technique is and how many opportunities it offers.

Day of Technology Waalwijk is an initiative of the Municipality of Waalwijk and Midpoint Brabant.

And we can already say that we will be there again next year!
