Meet Niek van den Heijkant, mechanical engineer and project leader at Van Wees Waalwijk. Niek brings technology to life - whether it's a high-tech machine on the shop floor or an impressive hobby project in his spare time!
Engineering is in his DNA
Niek's passion for engineering began at a young age tinkering with Lego. "Jokingly, I sometimes say that I still build Lego now, only now with blocks that I get to invent myself!" He translates that creative insight into his work every day, where he thinks along in custom solutions, designs detailed 3D models, creates technical working drawings, supervises the process in the workshop and maintains close contact with customers.
After a successful graduation internship during his HBO Mechanical Engineering studies, Niek stuck with Van Wees Waalwijk some 12 years ago. "The best part is that I can now create the designs myself," Niek says enthusiastically. "Every project is unique and that makes my work versatile, challenging and super fun!"
Even outside of work hours, Niek does not sit still. His ultimate hobby? His 1972 Mercedes, which he personally converted into a 'sleeper' - a classic car with a very fast engine! Niek designed the engine parts himself, in his own time, in Van Wees Waalwijk's 3D drawing program and used our workshop to make them. Colleagues helped and now he drives around in this unique diesel.
