Customized solution for French fry transport in the food industry

Van Wees Waalwijk

Simple, smart solution for cleaner processing in the food industry

In the food industry, everything revolves around continuity and hygiene. Van Wees Waalwijk was asked by a potato product manufacturer to help solve a seemingly minor problem with a major impact: what to do with the leftover fries and dirt that fall off the conveyor belt after it has been cleaned?

Where leftovers would normally fall onto the floor, Van Wees Waalwijk developed a customized solution that meets the high standards of the food sector.

The challenge: French fry scraps under the conveyor belt

The fries are transported from one location to another via a conveyor belt. The fries lie on top of the belt, while the underside of the belt is continuously brushed clean. This works very well for product quality, but everything that is brushed off the belt, such as pieces of fries and crumbs, fell onto the floor.

Not really practical because the floor under the brush became dangerously slippery for employees and it caused:

  • additional cleaning time
  • risk of environmental pollution
  • unnecessary manual work for employees

The request to Van Wees Waalwijk: devise a practical, hygienic, and easy-to-clean solution that fits in with the existing installation.

The solution: a custom-made collection tray

Van Wees Waalwijk designed and built a custom-made collection tank with platform, fully tailored to the environment and the requirements of the food industry.

The solution: a custom-made collection tray

Key principles:

  • suitable use of materials for food environments
  • easy and quick to clean
  • easily accessible for employees
  • minimal downtime of the line

The conveyor belt brushes clean the underside. Everything that is brushed off the belt falls directly into the new collection tray. This tray is sloped so that water and residual products automatically run downwards.

Smart cleaning via a platform and a fixed drip tray

To make cleaning as practical as possible, the collection tank is accessible via a custom-made platform from which employees can work with a high-pressure sprayer. All corners of the collection tank are easily accessible; there are no awkward edges or "dead corners" where dirt can remain.

Smart cleaning via a platform and a fixed drip tray

There is a removable tray at the bottom of the sloping drip tray. During cleaning, water and debris flow directly into this tray. When the tray is full, it can easily be removed and replaced with an empty one. This keeps the area cleaner and makes cleaning easier, reduces the risk of contamination and downtime, and allows employees to work more ergonomically, safely, and efficiently.

This simple yet smart solution does exactly what is needed and is built to last for years in an intensive production environment.

This is where Van Wees Waalwijk excels: customized solutions that work.
